Privacy Notice
Effective date: 26 October 2026
This notice is written in plain language. It explains what JobSeek does with personal information. The operator and responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) is Van Ruby (Pty) Ltd, trading as J Live Solutions. J Live Solutions is based in Musgrave, Durban, South Africa. Email: info@jlivesolutions.co.za.
JobSeek is the CV builder and job-search companion at jobseek.vanrubylabs.co.za.
What we collect
We collect only what you type in or upload.
- Account: your email address and password. We store the password as a hash, not as the password you typed.
- Contact details: first name, surname, email, South African mobile number, city and province. A LinkedIn address is optional.
- CV content: the job you are aiming for, education, certificates, experience, skills, and the profile summary you edit.
- Optional photo: only if you choose to add one.
- Optional documents: qualification or certificate files, only if you upload them.
- Consents: which boxes you ticked, when, and the version of the text you agreed to.
- Use of the service: sign-in, downloads, and the choices you make in the builder, so the product can work and so we can warn you before an inactive account is deleted.
- Payments, if you pay: the amount, the plan, the payment reference, the date, and the status. We do not store your full card number.
- Waitlist, if you join it: your email address, the time you agreed, and the version of the waitlist text.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for an identity number, a date of birth, gender, race, marital status, health information, or religion. There is no home-address field. Do not put those details in a free-text box. If a government form such as the Z83 asks for them, you complete that form yourself on the government's own document. JobSeek does not add them to your account.
Why we use it
| Purpose | Why we may do this under POPIA |
|---|---|
| Create your account, keep your profile, and build your CV and cover letter | To provide the service you asked for, and because you agree to the Terms of Use and this notice at sign-up |
| Store a photo or a document | A separate consent, asked before the first upload |
| Send reminder emails about applications you are tracking | A separate opt-in. We do not send them unless you tick the box |
| Send one email when the CV builder launches, if you joined the waitlist | A separate opt-in |
| Take a payment and keep the tax record | To provide the paid plan, and because tax law requires us to keep payment records |
| Protect accounts, investigate abuse, and keep short security logs | Our legitimate interest in running a safe service, limited to what we need |
| Answer a request you send to info@jlivesolutions.co.za | To respond to you, and to meet our duties under POPIA |
We log each consent with the version of the text you saw. The texts live in the product's consent list. If we change a text, we give it a new version.
Selling, sharing, and job applications
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your CV, your photo, or your documents with employers, recruiters, or job sites. We do not apply for jobs for you. The app never sends your CV to anyone. You download it, and you send it yourself if you choose to.
Opening a link to another website (for example a job board or a government site) takes you out of JobSeek. That site has its own rules. We do not receive your application from them.
The service runs on a private server in Finland (European Union). The host stores the data so that JobSeek can run. That is not a sale of your information. If you pay by card, the payment provider processes the payment for us. We keep the payment record described above.
How we protect it
- Files sit on a private storage area that is not published as a public folder.
- Each file is stored under a random key, not under your name.
- A file is only served to you, and only through a signed link that expires (10 minutes).
- The site is served over HTTPS.
- The disk volume is encrypted at rest.
- Photos are re-saved so that camera data (EXIF) is removed.
- We check the file type from the file itself, not only from the file name.
No online service can promise that a break-in is impossible. If a breach creates a serious risk to you, we will tell you and, where POPIA requires it, the Information Regulator.
How long we keep it
- Inactive accounts. If you do not sign in and you do not download for 24 months, we delete the account. "Active" means you signed in or you downloaded. We email a warning 30 days before deletion, and again 7 days before. Each warning has a link to keep the account. Using that link counts as activity.
- Deleting your account. Files are removed immediately. Database rows are removed within 7 days. Backups age out within 30 days.
- A file you delete, or upload consent you withdraw. The files are deleted. Withdrawing upload consent deletes the uploaded files.
- Waitlist. The entry is deleted 30 days after we send the launch email, or sooner if you unsubscribe.
- Proof of consent. After the account is deleted, we keep proof of consent for 1 year. That proof is a hashed email, not your readable email address, plus the consent record.
- Payment records. Kept for 5 years for tax, then the link to your user account is removed.
- Text you pasted from a job advert. Removed 12 months after you last updated that advert.
- Security and activity log (sign-in, export, deletion, plan change). Kept for 12 months.
Your rights
You can:
- Access and export your information from Settings. The export is a zip with your profile and your files.
- Correct anything that is wrong, in the builder, or by emailing us.
- Delete the account from Settings, or by emailing us.
- Withdraw consent. You can turn reminder emails off. You can unsubscribe from the waitlist. If you withdraw upload consent, we delete the uploaded files. Withdrawing consent does not undo a download you already made, and it does not erase a payment record we must keep for tax.
- Object to processing that is based on our legitimate interest. We will stop unless the law allows us to continue.
Email info@jlivesolutions.co.za. We answer within 30 days. Please use the email on the account if you can, so we know the request is from you. We will not ask you for an identity number in order to do this.
Complaint to the Information Regulator
If you are unhappy with our reply, or you believe your personal information has been handled unlawfully, you can complain to the Information Regulator. Checked on 24 October 2026 from the Regulator's own pages:

Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies only. One keeps you signed in. One stops another site from submitting a form as you. We do not use analytics cookies or advertising cookies.
Under 18
You must be 18 or older to use JobSeek on your own. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian. The guardian must agree to the Terms of Use and to this notice, and the guardian must be the person who writes to us about the account.
Changes
If we change this notice, we will update this page and the effective date, 26 October 2026. If you have an account and the change affects how we use your information, we will email you. Where the law requires a new agreement, we will ask you to agree to the new text. The old text version stays on the consent record you already gave.
